Erdogan: Israel's attacks on Syria and Lebanon already pose threats to Turkey as well
Israeli policy is becoming a threat not only to the region but to all of humanity, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
Speaking at a meeting of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti), Erdogan noted that Israel's attacks on Syria and Lebanon are already creating threats for Turkey as well.
"Our region continues to face wars and crises; if what is happening is not stopped, the consequences will affect the whole world. Turkey's security does not begin only with Hatay. It begins with Aleppo, Damascus, and Beirut. I want everyone to understand once and for all that Syria and Lebanon are two independent states. However, these states are also located within Turkey's geography. We will not turn a blind eye to attacks against them," he said.
According to him, some forces "are trying to threaten Turkey." "We understand their intentions and goals well. We will not allow such plans to be implemented. We see attempts to ignite a new source of tension in the Mediterranean, especially around the island of Cyprus, and we are closely monitoring developments. Some small structures, whose ambitions far exceed their real capabilities, have become conduits for Israel's interests and are pursuing their plans in the Eastern Mediterranean.
"I want to state this as clearly as possible: let no one seek adventures or become a tool of others' plans. If attempts are made in the Eastern Mediterranean to encroach on the rights and legitimate interests of Turkey and Turkish Cypriots, our response will be clear and harsh," Erdogan said.
