Erdogan congratulates Pashinyan on election victory
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his victory in the parliamentary elections.
"I am quite convinced that your strategic vision for long-term peace and stability in the region and ensuring the necessary cooperation will be successfully implemented," the congratulatory message says.
On June 7, parliamentary elections were held in Armenia. The ruling Civil Contract party of Nikol Pashinyan, according to preliminary data from the CEC, is gaining 49,825% of the votes. The opposition bloc of businessman Samvel Karapetyan, Strong Armenia, is gaining 23,281%, while the bloc of former President Robert Kocharyan, Armenia, has 9,934%. The party of businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, Prosperous Armenia, according to preliminary data from the CEC, receives 3.99% — just 0.01% below the threshold (the party is not entering parliament for now, but it has appealed to the CEC for a recount of votes). Turnout was 58.94%.
