US denies Israel's request to review memorandum of understanding with Iran
Israel requested clarifications from the US regarding the provisions of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, but was refused, Channel 12 reports citing senior Israeli officials.
According to them, Israel still does not have all the details of the agreement, which will be signed on Friday in Switzerland, including those related to Iran's nuclear program and the resolution of the issue of eliminating stocks of highly enriched uranium.
In addition, Israel opposes the withdrawal of its troops from Lebanon, as the memorandum suggests, the channel's sources emphasized.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Sunday that Israeli troops would remain in the security zone in Lebanon. Katz added that "if Iran attacks Israel because of events in Lebanon, we will attack it with full force."
Channel 12 notes that the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran is intended to serve as the basis for negotiations on a broader and more comprehensive agreement that will also include Iran's nuclear program. After the signing of the memorandum this Friday, the parties are to reach an understanding on the final version of the peace agreement within 60 days.
US President Donald Trump said the day before that "Iran, according to the agreement, will never receive nuclear weapons. If Iran develops a nuclear weapon, acquires it or anything else - the gates of hell will open before it," Trump stressed.
