Geropharm presented the first drug based on tirzepatide in Azerbaijan
GEROPHARM has presented in Azerbaijan the first drug based on tirzepatide in pen syringes — Sejaro®, which has become an important milestone in the development of modern approaches to the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Over the past few years, tirzepatide has become one of the most discussed innovations in world endocrinology. The molecule gained wide recognition thanks to the drug Mounjaro®, presented on international markets. Sejaro® is an analog of the original drug based on the active substance tirzepatide. Particular attention from the medical community is associated with the drug’s effect on visceral adipose tissue — the most dangerous type of fat that accumulates around internal organs and increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
In international clinical studies, the use of tirzepatide achieved a reduction in body weight of up to 22.5% over 72 weeks in patients without diabetes mellitus, as well as a reduction in waist circumference by an average of 14.6 cm. Additional interest among specialists is associated with the molecule’s dual mechanism of action, which simultaneously affects appetite regulation, metabolism and blood glucose levels.
The appearance of the first tirzepatide drug in pen syringe form in Azerbaijan is especially relevant given the prevalence of obesity in the country. According to the World Health Organization, more than a quarter of the adult population of Azerbaijan lives with obesity, and more than 62% of adults are overweight or obese. Obesity is a chronic disease and one of the main risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular and other diseases.
