European commission chief: Ukraine urgently needs more air defense systems

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the need to strengthen Ukraine's air defense will be discussed at the NATO summit in Ankara.

"Last night, the Russian regime, attacking the capital with more than 400 drones and missiles, again blindly targeted civilians from the air. Ukraine urgently needs more air defense systems," von der Leyen noted in a message published on the social network of the American company X.

She emphasized that this issue will be considered at the NATO summit in Ankara, adding that the European Union has already provided the first tranche of 4 billion euros from a 90 billion euro loan aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense with advanced drone technologies.

Von der Leyen noted that more is planned in the near future, and also reported that active work is underway to complete the 21st package of sanctions against Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously reported that on the night before, the Russian army struck the country, launching 68 missiles and 351 unmanned aerial vehicles.
