Lithuanian government announces resignation
The Lithuanian cabinet of ministers headed by Prime Minister Inga Ruginene announced its resignation.
The decision on this by general agreement of the government members was made at a cabinet meeting.
"Despite all the difficulties, we have something to be proud of - what has been done for the benefit of the state and its people," the prime minister said. "Today we are making the decision to resign."
The prime minister and the government as a whole were forced to resign due to changes in the ruling coalition. The issue of its reform came on the agenda after the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania in early June decided to stop cooperating with the party "Dawn over the Neman," accusing it of populist policies. The new coalition partner became the party "Democrats for the Sake of Lithuania." As part of these changes, it was decided to "reset the government."
