Draft constitutional law regarding Corsica supported in Azerbaijan parliament
The Corsican People Support Group of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a statement on the draft constitutional law adopted by the National Assembly of France.
The statement says:
“The adoption by the National Assembly of France of the draft constitutional law providing for the establishment of a special autonomous status for Corsica within the French Republic is an important stage for the Corsican people. The bill provides for granting Corsica broader powers of self-government, taking into account the historical, cultural, social, and geographical features of the island, and in this regard is assessed as an important political result of the peaceful, democratic, and consistent struggle that the Corsican people have waged for many years.
We, as the Corsican People Support Group of the Milli Majlis, highly appreciate this perseverance, determination, and commitment of the Corsican people to democratic principles and sincerely welcome them. The perseverance and determination shown by the Corsican people in determining their future once again demonstrate that the legitimate demands of peoples are sooner or later reflected in the political sphere. In this regard, the decision adopted by the National Assembly of France is not only a legislative act but also an important political achievement of the long-term struggle of the Corsican people.
We hope that the Senate of France will also show historical responsibility, support the decision adopted by the National Assembly of France, and thereby express respect for the democratic will of the Corsican people. The Corsican People Support Group of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to support an objective assessment by the international community of the legitimate rights, democratic will, and peaceful political struggle of the Corsican people.”
