Media: U.S. may introduce a $100,000 fee for work on a student visa
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump may introduce a fee of $100,000 for the opportunity for foreign students to find employment after graduating from an American university.
The Wall Street Journal writes about this, citing sources. If such a rule is adopted, Trump will be able to restrict forms of legal immigration to the U.S. even further.
The newspaper writes that this step will significantly reduce the appeal of studying in the U.S. for foreigners. The law will be especially harmful to educational institutions, for which foreign tourists are a reliable source of income. It will also affect companies from Silicon Valley and Wall Street, which actively hire specialists from other countries.
The publication's source said that the fee will be charged for participation in optional practical training programs, which allow graduates to work for 1-3 years on the basis of a student visa. In 2024, according to the WSJ, there were 419,000 working foreign graduates in the U.S.
On June 26, it became known that the U.S. is completely ceasing to accept foreigners who apply for political asylum. The country will redirect such requests to other states.
