Trump says the U.S. has enormous stockpiles of munitions

U.S. President Donald Trump, amid claims that Washington is short on munitions, stated that the country possesses enormous stockpiles.

Earlier, the Washington Post, citing informed sources, wrote that at a cabinet meeting at Camp David this week Trump demanded explanations from Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth over a shortage of missiles. However, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later stated that the newspaper's report did not correspond to reality.

"The U.S. has a huge amount of stockpiles of "munitions," especially certain types. In addition, (they) are being produced and delivered to the U.S. as needed in enormous volumes", - he wrote on the social network Truth Social.

Trump stated that those who spread such "information leaks" face long prison terms.

Earlier, the Pentagon requested an additional $67 billion from Congress to cover expenses related to the war with Iran and to replenish weapons stockpiles, some of which, according to CNN and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), have reached critically low levels.

Earlier, CSIS (the organization is designated as undesirable in Russia) calculated that during the confrontation with Iran between February 27 and July 27 the United States expended between 1,500 and 1,600 Patriot missiles and about 200 THAAD interceptors. Because of such expenditure, Patriot stockpiles fell from 2,300 to approximately 760–830 units, while the THAAD arsenal decreased from 452 to 234–278 missiles, which led to a noticeable shortage of air defense assets.
