Iran condemns attack on office of Iraqi Kurdistan's prime minister

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged the Kurds not to give in to provocations and said that the attack on the office of Iraqi Kurdistan's Prime Minister Masrour Barzani was carried out with the aim of driving a wedge between them.

"Kurdish friends should be vigilant and not give in to provocations aimed at sowing discord between neighbors," Araghchi wrote on the social network X.

In his opinion, "nothing justifies" the attack on Iraq's Kurdish region.

Earlier, during a telephone conversation, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed with Araghchi the drone strikes on the offices of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Erbil that took place on Monday.

A statement from Iraq's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Hussein asked for clarification of Iran's official position regarding the attack on the residence and personal office of the Prime Minister of Kurdistan, noting that this attack "will have a negative impact on Iraq's security and stability in the region."

In turn, the head of Iran's Foreign Ministry "expressed surprise at the attack that occurred and explained that he has no information indicating that the strikes were carried out from Iranian territory."

The statement also said that Araghchi stressed that "such actions have no justification, given the positive and solid relations between the government of Iran and the Kurdistan Regional Government."

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry condemned the incident.

According to the IRNA agency, the spokesman for Iran's foreign policy department, Esmail Baghaei, called what happened "an extremely suspicious event requiring vigilance and close attention."

"He also stressed that all parties must work to thwart the sinister plans of the enemies of Iran and Iraq aimed at undermining the fraternal relations between the two countries," IRNA reported.
