Armenia and India to deepen cooperation in the defense industry

Armenia and India will deepen cooperation in the defense industry.

A corresponding memorandum of understanding was signed between Armenia's Ministry of High-Tech Industry and India's Ministry of Defense.

As reported by the Armenian "hi-tech" ministry, on August 17 Minister David Tadevosyan received a delegation headed by the Secretary of India's Ministry of Defense, Rajesh Kumar Singh, which arrived in Armenia on an official visit.

The parties formalized in writing the areas of mutually beneficial cooperation in the defense industry, including the implementation of joint research, design, and innovation programs, the development of startups and incubators in the field of defense technologies, as well as programs for exchanging experience and developing the professional competencies of industry specialists.

During the meeting, opportunities for expanding cooperation between Armenia and India in the defense industry and high technology were discussed. Special attention was paid to such areas as scientific research, development, and innovation. The parties emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional ties and developing partnerships with Armenian companies.

Earlier, Singh met with Armenia's Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan. The interlocutors reviewed issues concerning Armenian-Indian interaction in the field of defense, including military-technical cooperation.

In recent years, India has become a key supplier of weapons for Armenia's Armed Forces. As Indian media previously wrote, in 2022-2023 the parties concluded contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Under the agreements, New Delhi has already delivered or is preparing to deliver to Yerevan multiple launch rocket systems, self-propelled howitzers, air defense systems, and ammunition.
