U.S. Senate to introduce resolution banning strikes on Oman without congressional approval
Democratic Senator Tim Kaine stated that he will introduce a war powers resolution in the Senate to halt U.S. President Donald Trump's threats against Oman.
"As soon as we return from the August recess, I will introduce a war powers resolution prohibiting military action against Oman, and I hope that some Republican colleagues will join the Democrats…" reads Kaine's statement published on his website.
He noted that Trump's threat to spend the dwindling U.S. arsenal on Oman — "a country with which the U.S. has strong diplomatic relations and a free trade agreement" — makes "real adversaries such as China and Russia" rejoice.
Earlier, the U.S. president stated that he would strike Oman if that country continued negotiations with Iran on control over the Strait of Hormuz.
"If Oman continues down this path, then we will bomb the hell out of it," Fox News journalist Trey Yingst quoted Trump as saying on Monday on the social network X.
It was previously reported that Iran and Oman are holding consultations on joint control over the Strait of Hormuz.
