Armenia needs to begin talks with the EU, Pashinyan's party believes
Armenia needs to begin negotiations on association with the EU in order to deepen relations with the European Union, said Arman Yeghoyan, a member of parliament from the ruling Civil Contract party, to journalists.
The party in question is headed by the republic's prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan.
"The process of European integration entails coming closer to the institutions of the European Union, that is, deepening the treaty and legal framework. Starting from this moment, if we want to deepen relations with the European Union, we must begin negotiations on association," Yeghoyan said.
According to him, this should be the next institutional step.
Armenia's parliament in March 2025 adopted a law on the start of the process of Armenia's accession to the European Union, and in April of the same year it was approved by the republic's president, Vahagn Khachaturyan. Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with Pashinyan, stated that being in a customs union with both the EU and the EAEU is impossible.
