Putin allowed himself to use the army to protect Russians abroad
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing the use of the army abroad to protect Russians arrested by decision of foreign courts.
The document is posted on the website of official publication of legal acts.
The changes affected the federal laws “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation” and “On Defense.” According to them, the head of state by his decision can involve the Armed Forces of Russia in case of need to protect compatriots arrested or persecuted by foreign courts without the participation of the Russian side. This applies, among other things, to judicial bodies whose competence is not based on a resolution of the UN Security Council.
The State Duma adopted the document immediately in two readings on May 13. On May 20, the law was approved by the Federation Council.
