Pezeshkian calls for using Azerbaijan's opportunities for importing goods to Iran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian instructed the government to use the opportunities of neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, to import a number of necessary goods into the country.

According to IRNA, Pezeshkian gave this instruction following a meeting with ministers and the head of Iran's Central Bank.

"The president stressed the need to make maximum use of the potential of the country's northern ports, develop alternative trade corridors and use the opportunities of neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Russia, to provide and import some necessary goods and called for accelerating the implementation of relevant agreements in this area," the statement said.

Pezeshkian stressed that if necessary, he would personally consult with the leaders of neighboring countries and regional partners in order to eliminate possible obstacles to the supply and transportation of essential goods and medicines as quickly as possible.

The meeting reviewed the current situation with the import of basic goods, medicines and resources necessary for the country, taking into account the restrictions that have arisen at some southern checkpoints.

According to the economy minister's report, as a result of consultations with neighboring countries, the capabilities of a significant part of land border checkpoints and alternative transport routes have been activated and strengthened to facilitate and increase the import of goods.
