Armenian CEC opposes repeat voting at three polling stations
Head of Armenia's Central Election Commission Vaagn Ovakimyan believes that appointing repeat voting at three polling stations whose results were annulled is not a mandatory requirement.
Earlier, the CEC published the final results of the June 7 parliamentary elections, according to which three political forces entered the new convocation of the Armenian parliament - the ruling Civil Contract party, the Strong Armenia and Armenia blocs. At the same time, the opposition Prosperous Armenia party stated that they did not overcome the four percent threshold due to the annulment of voting results at three polling stations.
"The Central Election Commission, having recognized the voting results at any polling station as invalid, should not automatically appoint repeat voting. When making such a decision, the CEC should take into account the protection of the real will of voters and ensuring the legality of the election results. For this reason, the CEC should choose the measure that in these conditions is necessary, proportionate and does not cause greater distortion than the violation whose consequences need to be eliminated," the statement of the CEC chairman published on the CEC website says.
