Zakharova: Armenia drags out and freezes initiatives involving Moscow
Armenia does not intend to "slow down" the implementation of Eurostandards; it is dragging out and freezing initiatives involving Moscow.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this to RIA Novosti.
"Serious initiatives with our participation are being dragged out or frozen. At the same time, we were repeatedly told like a mantra – 'we will return to their consideration after the elections.' However, no one in Yerevan intends to 'slow down' in terms of implementing Eurostandards," Zakharova said.
She added that Yerevan is signing various memorandums and "framework plans" with Western capitals, including on cooperation in areas where Moscow has always been a traditional and reliable partner.
"Even before voting day, there was a whole 'parade' of declarations on strategic partnership concluded with Western countries. Even with those states that dream of Russia's defeat and introduce ever new packages of sanctions against our country," the diplomat noted.
According to Zakharova, statements by Armenian authorities about the importance of preserving and developing ties with Russia do not correspond to the steps of the republic's leadership, which is striving toward the EU.
"We hear statements from Armenian officials about the importance of Moscow as a partner, about Yerevan's intention to preserve and develop relations with Russia. But, unfortunately, we do not see words matching deeds and steps of the Armenian leadership, which has unambiguously stated its desire to join the EU," Zakharova said.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also stated that Armenia views relations with Russia as a tactical tool for financially securing a reorientation toward the European path.
