Media: US seeks ban on sale of items from 'Titanic' - photo

American authorities have opposed holding an auction to sell artifacts from the Titanic, which sank in 1912.

This was reported by the agency Associated Press (AP).

The company RMS Titanic, which holds exclusive rights to recover artifacts from the site of the ship's sinking, wants to sell some of the items. At the same time, as Associated Press notes, this firm previously agreed that objects raised from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean would only be presented in museums and at traveling exhibitions. Now RMS Titanic plans to put up for auction personal belongings of passengers and crew of the Titanic, kitchen utensils, and decor items.

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) considered that the possible sale of artifacts would violate the agreements between the authorities and RMS Titanic. The agency went to court and demanded a ban on the auction.
