Number of earthquake victims in Japan reaches 38
The number of people killed as a result of a powerful earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan has risen to 38, and at least 139 more people have been injured.
As reported by TASS, this is evidenced by the consolidated data from the prefectural authorities and rescue services.
Also, at least 9,200 people continue to remain in evacuation centers, where they were moved immediately after the disaster struck.
The earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 that occurred on July 28 became one of the most powerful in the country in recent years. In addition to rescue and specialized services, about 4,600 fighters of the Japan Self-Defense Forces are participating in the elimination of the consequences of the earthquake.
