Kyrgyzstan bans fuel exports

Relaxations on fuel imports have been introduced in Kyrgyzstan, while the authorities have established a ban on its export from the republic.

The cabinet of ministers adopted the corresponding resolution.

Thus, the previously established requirements that did not allow the import of certain types of oil and petroleum products into the country ceased to apply for the period from May 25, 2026 to April 1, 2027 inclusive.

At the same time, amendments have been made to the previously adopted resolution on a temporary ban on the export of oil and petroleum products from the country. Previously, it was not allowed to export the latter "from the Kyrgyz Republic outside the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union", but now the export outside Kyrgyzstan is prohibited, even to EAEU countries. The exception is naphtha, fuel oil and heating oil exported by decision of the cabinet of ministers and placed "under the customs procedure of processing outside the customs territory, with the obligatory subsequent re-import into the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic of their processing products".

After the escalation this spring of the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, the government of Kyrgyzstan decided to introduce subsidies for suppliers of fuels and lubricants in order to prevent an increase in prices in the republic for gasoline and diesel fuel. Currently, the main exporter of petroleum products to the Kyrgyz market (about 90-95%) is Russia. Stocks of AI-92 gasoline in the republic remain for approximately 3-4 weeks, the authorities of the republic are currently negotiating fuel supplies to prevent its shortage also with Belarus, Kazakhstan and China.
