U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a "devastating economic operation" against Iran.
According to him, Washington is launching it in response to Tehran's unwillingness to make a deal.
"No one has given Iran a better opportunity to make a deal than I have. Unfortunately for them, they did not take advantage of it. Therefore, today I am announcing the most devastating economic operation ever undertaken against any country," Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.
As the U.S. president explained, the operation entails "economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale." "Any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports or government agencies to provide Iran with any lifeline will itself face enormous economic consequences," he added.
According to Donald Trump, Iran is "on the brink" — "their navy is gone, their air force has been destroyed, their military plants have been turned into ruins, and their currency is worthless."
