The U.S. will allocate nearly $23 billion to expand Tomahawk production
The U.S. Department of Defense has signed a contract worth $22.9 billion with Raytheon, part of RTX, for accelerated production of Tomahawk cruise missiles.
As Report informs citing the Pentagon's official website, the agreement is aimed at expanding production capacity and speeding up deliveries of the missiles, which are a key means for the U.S. Navy to carry out long-range strikes. Deputy Secretary of Defense for Acquisition Michael P. Duffey noted that the contract will make it possible to provide service members with the necessary weaponry and will give the defense industry the stability to expand its workforce and strengthen supply chains.
In addition, the major deal became part of the Pentagon's Acquisition Transformation Strategy. The document provides for reducing the delivery times of critically important types of weapons to the American army.
