Vance assessed the state and prospects of the US-Iran dialogue

According to him, the US and Iran made significant progress in the negotiations the day before in Bürgenstock.

“Yesterday was a very, very good day. We made very good progress,” he said, adding that the US and Iran had laid a solid foundation for concluding the final deal.

“The final deal is a house, and we have laid the foundation. We have not built the house itself yet, but we have laid a good foundation,” he said.

Vance reported that technical negotiations between the US and Iran will resume in the coming days or weeks.

“Our teams are working with the Iranians, Qataris and Pakistanis, yesterday excellent progress was achieved. Work at the technical level in Bürgenstock will continue in the coming weeks or days,” he indicated.

According to the vice president, the Iranian leadership agreed to invite IAEA inspectors to their nuclear facilities again.

“The Iranians agreed to invite IAEA inspectors to their country again,” he said. Vance added that this marks “the first step towards final denuclearization or the cessation of the nuclear program in Iran.” “This is exactly what we wanted, exactly what we asked [Iran] for,” the US vice president stated.

Vance allowed that IAEA inspectors could arrive in Iran on June 22. “I expect this to happen at least this week, but I think that some of the talks with the inspectors and with the IAEA could take place already today,” he said, noting that the American side had tried to contact the IAEA inspectors as early as Monday night.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the US vice president stated that this waterway is open.

“We wanted to create a mechanism to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. And it is open. Of course, we see how gas and oil prices are decreasing, millions of barrels of oil and natural gas pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which was not the case before. But we also wanted to make sure that we really created a coordination mechanism so that we could demine the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
