Azerbaijani-Belarusian relations develop at the level of strategic partnership
On May 19, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sergeenko made a statement to the press following a bilateral meeting.
As AZERTAJ reports, Sahiba Gafarova noted that Igor Sergeenko, as part of his official visit to Azerbaijan, is also representing Belarus at the 13th session of the World Forum of Cities and participated in the opening ceremony of the forum the day before. She pointed out that this moment clearly demonstrates the essence of Azerbaijani-Belarusian relations. According to her, as President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev noted, these relations have stood the test of time, and no one doubts that Belarus and Azerbaijan are reliable friends.
Stating that today relations between the two countries are developing in all directions and have already taken on the character of a strategic partnership, based on sincere friendship, constructive dialogue, as well as mutual trust and support, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis particularly emphasized the role of friendly ties between the heads of the two states, mutual visits, and high-level meetings in the development of relations.
S. Gafarova noted with satisfaction that our interparliamentary ties also correspond to the current level of relations between our countries. Our legislative bodies cooperate in such international organizations as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA). The Parliament of Belarus received observer status in the APA precisely during the Milli Majlis chairmanship in this structure.
The importance of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, created on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev and currently chaired by the Milli Majlis, was also highlighted as one of the key platforms.
In conclusion, S. Gafarova again noted that relations between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Belarus are at a very good level.
In turn, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus I. Sergeenko also mentioned his participation in the 13th session of the World Forum of Cities at the instruction of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and pointed to the impressive scale of the high-level event. The guest also spoke about his country’s experience and achievements in the field of urban planning and urbanization.
Touching on relations between our parliaments as well, I. Sergeenko expressed satisfaction with their high level: “Today, one can say, there are no closed topics for us; we speak openly, exchange words of support and friendship, and share experience. As the guest noted, the friendship groups established in our parliaments play a significant role in intensifying interparliamentary dialogue. Today’s meetings also involve deputies who head the friendship groups as well as members of the Council of the Republic of our country.”
