Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei buried in Mashhad
The burial ceremony of Iran's late supreme leader Ali Khamenei concluded in his hometown of Mashhad.
His body was buried in the mausoleum of Imam Reza, the place where two years ago the president of the Islamic Republic Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash, was seen off on his final journey.
At the last moment, due to the number of people wishing to say goodbye to Khamenei, the organizers of the funeral procession had to change the route to the mausoleum. The funeral cortege with the leader's body was unable to reach the mausoleum, and they had to resort to the help of a helicopter.
On the territory of the tomb, a namaz was read over Khamenei and members of his family who died with him, in the presence of hundreds of thousands of pilgrims. Then an official burial ceremony took place in a narrow circle, where journalists were no longer allowed.
