French police detained 141 fans in Paris overnight into Wednesday after the national team's defeat in the World Cup semifinals.

The channel BFMTV reports this, citing the Paris police prefecture.

It is specified that most of the detentions were related to fans using pyrotechnics, including against police officers. Despite minor incidents in different parts of the city and nearby suburbs, there were no injuries or serious damage.

Similar violations of public order were recorded in Lyon. According to footage shown by the channel from the scene, police used tear gas to disperse aggressive youth. About twenty people in the city were detained following clashes with the police.

The French national team lost to the Spanish team in the World Cup semifinals with a score of 0:2. The team is to play a match for third place. After the end of the tournament, Didier Deschamps, who has held the position for 14 years, will leave the post of head coach of the French national team.
