Gulchohra Mammadova: 'Attempts are being made to distort the origin of the architectural monuments of Caucasian Albania'
"Despite the fact that the 44-day Patriotic War ended with the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, the struggle to protect our national interests continues. In Armenia, there are still forces holding revanchist positions, seeking to falsify history and appropriate the cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people. We must not lose vigilance for a single minute."
This was stated by the rector of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC), Doctor of Architecture, Professor Gulchohra Mammadova, speaking today at an event dedicated to September 27 — Remembrance Day.
According to the rector, along with the forces making revanchist appeals in Armenia, there are also circles attempting to distort historical facts.
"On the one hand, revanchist appeals are being voiced; on the other, attempts to falsify our history and cultural heritage continue. In particular, the origin of the architectural monuments of Caucasian Albania located in Western Azerbaijan and in our territories liberated from occupation is being distorted. Attempts are being made to present these monuments as examples of Armenian heritage. It is extremely important to counter such attempts to appropriate our historical and architectural heritage, relying on scientific facts and evidence."
Gulchohra Mammadova emphasized the need to intensify activities to preserve Azerbaijan's historical and cultural heritage, to scientifically research the origin of architectural monuments, and to convey the historical truth to the international community.
"We must continue our struggle not only within the country, but also at the international scientific level, on various platforms and especially in the mass media. It is necessary to use every opportunity to convey the historical truth to the world community. After all, as soon as we cease our work in the informational and scientific spheres, the forces seeking to falsify history will take advantage of the resulting vacuum and try to present their unfounded claims to the international community as historical truth.
In this respect, an enormous responsibility rests on scholars, historians, architects, and representatives of the mass media. Preserving our historical and architectural heritage, establishing the genuine origin of monuments on the basis of scientific evidence, and conveying these facts to the world community is the duty of each of us," the rector noted.
