Macron voices position on Strait of Hormuz in Yerevan

A sustainable solution to the conflict between Iran and the United States can only be the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron to journalists in Yerevan, ahead of the European Political Community summit.

The reopening of the strait must occur without restrictions on navigation or fees imposed on ships, he added.

The French President noted that the United States first announced a ceasefire with Iran and then declared a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

"If they now want to reopen it — very well. This is what we have been talking about from the beginning," said the French President, emphasizing that, in any case, Paris will not participate in any military operations in the Middle East.

Macron also considers it important that the ceasefire be observed in Lebanon, where strikes have resumed over the past two days.

US President Donald Trump announced Operation "Freedom" on May 3 to evacuate ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, stating that it would begin on the morning of May 4.

The head of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Ebrahim Azizi, stated that Tehran would consider any US interference in the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire regime.
