The death toll from the collapse of a residential building in the city of Fez, located in northern Morocco, has risen to 14.

This was reported by the Hespress news portal, citing representatives of the city’s medical institutions.

According to them, “the number of victims from the collapse of a five-story residential building that occurred in the Ain Nakbi district of Fez has risen to 14.” Medics added that “six more people were injured, some of them in critical condition.” The bodies of the deceased, as well as the injured, have been taken to the regional city hospital and the Hassan II University Hospital.

It was previously reported that nine people died in the collapse of a residential building in the historic quarter of Fez. As Moroccan Ministry of National, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy representative Adib Benibrahim stated, “the building collapsed due to illegal construction.” The prosecutor’s office at the city’s court of appeal has launched a thorough investigation to determine all the causes and circumstances related to the incident.
