Peskov: Moscow heard statement that Armenia will not be anti-Russian

Moscow has heard statements that Armenia will not engage in anti-Russian rhetoric, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to visit Armenia on May 26. Journalists suggested that anti-Russian statements might allegedly be voiced during the meeting. In this regard, journalists asked Peskov how the Kremlin views such a practice.

"Recently we heard statements from both (Armenian Prime Minister Nikol - ed.) Pashinyan and the minister of foreign affairs (of Armenia - ed.) that Armenia will not engage in anti-Russian rhetoric. We heard these statements," Peskov told journalists.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Armenia is being drawn into an anti-Russian camp in order to make Russia "as painful as possible." Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, chairman of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev also stated that Pashinyan "is persistently dragging the republic into the EU, while trying to preserve all the benefits from participation in the EAEU."
