More than 300 tourists were trapped inside 65 cabins of one of Asia's highest cable cars in the city of Gulmarg in northern India.

This was reported by the PTI agency.

Operation of both lines of the cable car was suspended after a failure that occurred around noon. The technical malfunction caused panic among the vacationers, many of whom were trapped in cabins suspended at a height of about 150 m above the ground.

According to government officials, a large-scale rescue operation involving multiple agencies lasted seven hours, as it was complicated by heavy rain in the area. Rescue teams used ropes and ladders to safely lower the tourists to the ground.

"The rescue operation is complete. All blocked people have been safely evacuated," one of the local authorities' representatives told journalists.
