First day of II International Barbecue Festival concludes in Shamakhi

The first day of the International Barbecue Festival, which is taking place in the village of Meysari in Shamakhi district, has concluded.

The two-day festival is organized with the support of the Executive Authority of Shamakhi district, the Nasimi baglari complex and the Abqora restaurant, with general sponsorship from Azərsun Holdinq and Coca-Cola Azerbaijan, and official partnership from Azerbaijan Hava Yollari CJSC, Premium Meat and Baku Medical Plaza.

Speaking at the opening of the festival, head of the Executive Authority of Shamakhi district Tahir Mammadov noted that the event features renowned chefs representing various countries around the world. Their rich experience, diverse culinary traditions and the exquisite dishes they present give the event a special flavor and make it even more interesting. He emphasized that such festivals not only provide guests with pleasant moments but also once again demonstrate the hospitality of Shamakhi.

The festival, aimed at expanding cultural exchange and gastronomic tourism, featured grand barbecue presentations and exquisite examples of world cuisine.

As last year, the International Barbecue Festival features chefs representing various countries around the world – Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, China, Denmark, France, Georgia, India, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Japan.

Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Katsui Watanabe told journalists that he was pleased to take part in such a wonderful event and had been looking forward to the second barbecue festival in Azerbaijan.

The ambassador said that during the festival he visited numerous stands and learned something interesting at each of them.

He noted that Japanese barbecue is being presented at the festival for the first time this year. According to him, participants are offered yakitori, a traditional Japanese dish of grilled chicken. The ambassador pointed out that this gives Azerbaijanis the opportunity to discover the true taste of Japanese cuisine.

The diplomat added that there is great interest in and love for Japan in Azerbaijan. This festival will help present Japanese culture, cuisine and flavors more widely.

The participating cooks are chefs with many years of experience in cooking who have worked in renowned restaurants in various countries during their professional careers, as well as taken part in many major festivals and received countless awards.

A culinary competition was also held between amateur cooks and professional chefs. The prepared dishes were evaluated by a professional jury, which determined the winner of the day.

In the evening hours, a musical program was presented.

The festival will continue on June 14.
