Assistant to President: Equitable representation of the Global South must be ensured in the UN Security Council
“The current structure of international organizations, especially the UN Security Council, does not reflect the realities of today’s world. The voice of the Global South is insufficiently heard in this organization, and equitable geographical representation is not ensured,” said Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, during his speech at the first General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform held on the sidelines of “Baku Urban Week.”
“We believe that in the process of reforming the UN Security Council, the voice of the Global South and its equitable representation must be ensured. Azerbaijan is a strong supporter of multilateralism, but unfortunately, we are witnessing the paralysis of multilateralism and multilateral institutions. Global South countries will continue to contribute effectively to strengthening these institutions,” Hikmet Hajiyev added.
