Iran announces creation of body to manage Strait of Hormuz
Iran has launched the state digital marine insurance platform Hormuz Safe for vessels transiting through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
This is reported in the official X account of the new PGSA structure.
“The official account of the Persian Gulf Strait Administration on the X server has been launched. Follow us to receive real-time updates on the operation of the Strait of Hormuz and the latest events,” the welcome post on the new department’s page says.
The platform is supported by the Iranian Ministry of Economy, which uses cryptocurrencies for direct settlements on insurance policies and does not require SWIFT or Western intermediaries.
The United States and Israel began striking targets on Iranian territory on February 28. Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire on April 8, but the United States began a blockade of Iranian ports, and Iran announced the establishment of special transit rules through the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation around Iran led to the actual blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for supplies to the world market of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Persian Gulf countries.
