New scheme of bribing voters using Russian cards uncovered in Armenia

Employees of Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee have uncovered further cases of giving and receiving electoral bribes, violating the ban on charitable activities, and obstructing a person's free exercise of their electoral rights.

As Armenpress reports citing the Anti-Corruption Committee of the RA, in particular, it was revealed that a number of persons organized by a candidate from the "Strong Armenia" party, in violation of the legislative ban, paid for housing rentals for a number of voters in the Lori region of the RA.

To avoid detection and reduce the traceability of their actions, group members used intermediaries and their vehicles, provided money primarily in cash, involved employees of affiliated companies and people around them in the process of receiving and distributing, and to complicate control over the movement of funds, planned to use Russian bank cards for financial operations.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated in the Anti-Corruption Committee of the RA, a number of persons have been arrested, searches and other procedural actions have been carried out.
