President Ilham Aliyev received United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed on May 21.
The head of state thanked the UN leadership for supporting the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), noting that the government of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme acted as a single team to successfully organize the event.
Ilham Aliyev emphasized that WUF13 became the second largest international event held in the country after COP29, and, like the climate conference, was organized at a high level.
The president noted Azerbaijan's effective cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and stated his intention to continue the partnership in the future, as well as to actively participate in future sessions of the forum.
Amina Mohammed conveyed greetings from United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to the head of state. Ilham Aliyev thanked her for the attention and asked her to convey reciprocal greetings.
The UN deputy secretary-general congratulated the president of Azerbaijan on the successful holding of the forum, noting the high level of organization and broad international representation of the event.
Amina Mohammed also emphasized that modern approaches to urban planning and the preservation of historical heritage are harmoniously combined in Baku, which gives the capital a special appeal.
During the meeting, it was noted that the large-scale restoration and construction work carried out by Azerbaijan in the liberated territories in the post-conflict period could serve as an example for other regions of the world that have experienced conflicts. It was emphasized that the country's experience in this area could also be useful for other states within the framework of the UN.
The parties also recalled that the ASAN xidmət model was awarded the UN prize for public services and a special award in the field of digital governance. It was noted that the successful experience of ASAN xidmət is already being applied in a number of countries in Africa and Asia.
The meeting emphasized that Azerbaijan has been an active and reliable partner of the UN for many years, making a significant contribution to the implementation of the organization's programs and initiatives. It was also noted with satisfaction that a number of UN international events have been held in the country at a high level.
