Tehran responds to CENTCOM with statement on Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is not within the area of responsibility of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and is under Iran's control.

Deputy Iranian Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi wrote this on social media platform X.

"The Bahrain Defense Forces cannot ensure law and order and security in the Persian Gulf," he stated.

According to Gharibabadi, regional security can only be ensured after the cessation of external interference, the withdrawal of U.S. troops, respect for the sovereignty of states, and recognition of new geopolitical realities.

He also emphasized that stability in the region cannot be achieved under the U.S. military umbrella.

Thus, the Iranian diplomat responded to the CENTCOM statement following the regional security dialogue held in Bahrain.

As noted, on July 1, CENTCOM held a meeting in Bahrain with the participation of senior military representatives from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The parties discussed the current situation in the field of regional security and opportunities to expand cooperation in the defense sector.

The CENTCOM statement also reaffirmed commitment to ensuring free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, it was noted that the United States and its regional partners continue to develop a joint missile defense system, and have also created a new Middle East air defense coordination center for information exchange, threat warnings, and emergency response.

It is particularly emphasized that representatives of the armed forces of Syria and Lebanon participated for the first time in a regional defense conference led by the United States.
