Armenian parliament rewrites oath of deputies

Deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia will take the oath in a new version.

The parliament adopted the corresponding amendments to the law "Regulations of the National Assembly" in the second and final reading.

The authors of the bill were deputies of the ruling "Civil Contract" faction.

According to the amendments, the oath text excludes formulations about serving national goals and strengthening the Motherland. Instead, deputies will be obliged to promote the strengthening of the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia.

In addition, the oath is supplemented by an obligation to make every effort not only to strengthen statehood and preserve public accord, but also to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens.

The text of the oath will end with the words: "Glory to the fallen and long live the Republic of Armenia!"

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan repeatedly stated that the basis of state policy should be not the agenda of the entire Armenian people living around the world, but the interests and goals of the Republic of Armenia. He calls this approach the concept of a "real Armenia."
