US President Donald Trump shared on his Truth Social page an article by Joshua Klein dedicated to the Azerbaijani leader's speech at the IV Shusha Global Media Forum on Monday.
In particular, in his article Klein notes that Ilham Aliyev called Trump a "uniquely effective peacemaker whose fundamentally different approach to diplomacy played a decisive role in achieving the historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and ushered in a new, unprecedented era in US-Azerbaijani relations."
Responding to a Breitbart News correspondent's question about what exactly distinguished Trump's approach from the actions of previous US administrations in facilitating the historic peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Azerbaijani leader explained this success by a fundamentally different view on resolving protracted conflicts, the author noted.
"The President of Azerbaijan emphasized that previous US administrations for nearly three decades pursued a policy that effectively froze the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict rather than resolving it, while Trump approached this problem from a completely different angle. Describing Trump as 'a man who loves peace' and 'sees new opportunities in the world,' Ilham Aliyev noted that his role proved decisive when Azerbaijan and Armenia reached the final stage of negotiations on the peace agreement. According to the Azerbaijani leader, Trump and his team showed understanding of Baku's concerns, made efforts to convince Armenia that peace serves the interests of both countries, and ultimately 'created the framework that made peace possible,'" the article states.
It notes that Ilham Aliyev particularly highlighted the White House summit held last August, at which President Donald Trump hosted him and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to sign the Joint Declaration, while the foreign ministers of both countries initialed the peace agreement itself. The document also provided for the creation of a joint US-Azerbaijan working group tasked with ensuring the implementation of its provisions over the subsequent six months. "This process, in Ilham Aliyev's opinion, clearly demonstrated the Trump administration's determination to see the matter through to the end," Klein emphasizes.
"The Azerbaijani leader added that the Trump administration fully fulfilled the commitments made at the White House within the framework of the joint working group on implementing the agreement. 'For the first time in my memory, American officials have so strictly kept their word,' he stressed.
According to Ilham Aliyev, the successful implementation of these steps opened the way to signing a broader Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Washington and Baku, elevating relations between the US and Azerbaijan to a level he later described as "unprecedented." Speaking about the strengthening of bilateral ties, the President of Azerbaijan summarized: "This is amazing. This is incredible. This is something we could only dream of," adding that the expanded partnership opened a completely new chapter in cooperation between the United States and Azerbaijan," the article emphasizes.
