Politico: EC may rework 21st sanctions package against RF taking into account Greece's position

The European Commission (EC) may make concessions to Greece and change some provisions of the 21st package of sanctions against Russia, as they contradict the economic interests of the community itself.

This was reported by the European publication Politico, citing sources.

"We are trying to find a way out of this situation (coordinating the package of restrictions), but the situation with Greece shows that we are beginning to encounter some key [European] interests," said a source among European diplomats.

On July 19, the British newspaper Financial Times reported that Greece opposed the new sanctions, as the EC ban on the transportation of Russian LNG could hit the shipping company Dynagas. Germany and Portugal are seeking to ease restrictions on the purchase of Russian fish, citing the need to support their processing enterprises. The newspaper stressed that France and Italy, being among the main tourist destinations in Europe, want a softening of the visa policy towards Russian citizens.

And Austria has again asked to unfreeze assets associated with Raiffeisen Bank.
