Trump says he prefers a deal with Iran to avoid casualties

U.S. President Donald Trump said that the United States is continuing consultations with Iran and expects to reach agreements.

"I would prefer to make a deal, because I don't want to kill people," he said, speaking about possible agreements with Tehran. "But we are holding a dialogue. Let's see what comes of it," he added during a speech in a suburb of Las Vegas (Nevada) on August 5. "But they respect us," the American leader asserted, referring to the authorities of the Islamic republic.

The United States and Israel began the war with Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached with regard to the Strait of Hormuz.
