Robert Kocharyan's son taken to the "KGB basement"

Sedrak Kocharyan, the son of second President Robert Kocharyan, has been taken to the "Yerevan-Kentron" penitentiary institution, his lawyer Alexander Kochubaev reported.

On the night of August 26, the court granted the investigation's motion and arrested Sedrak Kocharyan for two months. He is prohibited from having visitors, with the exception of family members — his wife and children.

"It is assumed that he is being held in a solitary cell, we will visit him in the evening," the lawyer said.

Sedrak Kocharyan is presumably in a solitary cell of the institution, better known among the public as the "KGB basement."

Sedrak Kocharyan, like his father, was detained early in the morning the previous day after searches at their home. They have been charged with abuse of official powers, money laundering on an especially large scale, as well as taking a bribe and facilitating its receipt.

After the detention, Robert Kocharyan's condition worsened, and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Therefore, the preventive measure in his case will be considered after his condition normalizes.

Amid the investigative actions, searches were also conducted on August 25 at companies belonging to the ex-president's family. After that, the companies were sealed.
