Putin sent Kocharyan a telegram to the detention center
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, who turned 72 today, wishing him "fortitude in the face of trials."
"In Russia, your personal contribution to the development of friendly, allied ties between our countries is not forgotten. I sincerely wish you good health, cheerfulness of spirit and fortitude in the face of the trials that you and members of your family are now facing," reads the congratulatory telegram published on the Kremlin's channel on "Max," TASS reports.
Recall that on August 27, Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court remanded Kocharyan in custody for two months. He has been charged with abuse of official powers, money laundering on an especially large scale and taking a bribe.
