Hakan Fidan: Mecca pact is open to all countries of the region
The Mecca pact is open for all countries of the region to join.
This was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan following the first meeting of the political and defense committee of the Mecca pact in Istanbul.
"The Mecca pact has received the official name of the Mecca Defense Alliance. Thanks to the signed agreement, the process of creating a new security and cooperation architecture in our region has begun. The pact is open to the participation of all countries of the region," Fidan said. The meeting was attended by the foreign and defense ministers and the chiefs of the general staffs of the countries that joined the Mecca agreement.
On August 7, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the Mecca agreement. It stipulates that an attack on one of the countries will be regarded as aggression against all parties to the pact.
