Ahmet Davutoglu under investigation for "insulting the president"

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case against former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

The former politician is suspected of insulting the head of state. The investigation was launched after a video of his speech, recorded on April 14, 2022, once again circulated on social media.

At the time, Davutoglu, speaking in one of the village squares, made harsh remarks directed at the country's leadership. The charges were brought against the backdrop of the politician's withdrawal from active public life: on July 29, 2026, Davutoglu officially announced his decision to end his political career and dissolve the "Future Party," which he had led.
