Trump welcomed Xi Jinping in the U.S.
U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping, who arrived on September 23 for a visit to the United States, at the aircraft steps at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington.
The Chinese leader's plane landed at 5:39 p.m. (1:39 a.m. Baku time on September 24). A red carpet was rolled out in front of the steps, along which American service members in dress uniform were lined up. Trump and Xi Jinping shook hands and talked for several minutes.
A military band performed the national anthems of China and the United States, after which an artillery salute was fired. American military aircraft, including B-1 bombers, flew over the air base. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump accompanied Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan to their car, after which they left the air base by helicopter.
According to the White House press pool, six F-16 and six F-22 fighter jets were on the airfield. According to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States will last from September 23 to 25. Trump visited China on May 13–15.
