Grossi: without IAEA involvement, a US-Iran agreement will be an illusion
A potential agreement between the US and Iran will be merely an "illusion of an agreement" if the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is not involved in the deal.
This was stated by its Director General, Rafael Grossi.
"If an agreement is reached, the IAEA must be present and conduct verification; otherwise, it will be an illusion of an agreement, not an agreement. There must be inspectors on the ground verifying the implementation of the reached agreements," he told journalists.
Grossi had previously noted that agreements between Washington and Tehran on the Iranian nuclear program without verification mechanisms would remain "just a piece of paper."
