In Iran, a high-ranking official was executed for ties with Israel

In Iran, a high-ranking employee of the defense department was executed after being convicted of espionage for the Israeli intelligence agency 'Mossad.'

This was reported by Al-Jazeera, citing the official portal of Iran's judiciary, Mizan.

According to the publication, Mehdi Farid, who held a senior position in the state civil defense agency, was hanged by order of Iran's Supreme Court.

During the investigation, Farid confessed to attempting to transmit confidential information to Israeli intelligence, including organizational charts, internal layout plans, data on security systems of defense facilities, and personnel information.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, striking several cities. The operation led to an escalation in the Middle East, drawing all Persian Gulf countries into the conflict and resulting in the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran, the United States, and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8, 2026, which is set to expire on the night of April 21-22.

The parties attempted to hold negotiations in Pakistan to resolve the conflict, but the first round, which took place on April 11-12, yielded no results.

As a means of pressure on Tehran, the United States announced a blockade of Iranian ports and passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran declared a blockade of the Strait for ships heading to Persian Gulf countries. The dynamically changing situation in the region has triggered a global energy crisis.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on April 22 the extension of the ceasefire regime with Iran. According to him, the decision was made at the request of Pakistani leadership and will remain in effect until the completion of negotiations and the development of a unified proposal by mediators to resolve the conflict. At the same time, Trump instructed U.S. military forces to continue the blockade of Iranian ports and maintain full combat readiness.
