Iran's Foreign Ministry states that war with the US is not over

The conflict between Iran and the US and Israel is not over, and the Islamic Republic continues to maintain a defensive stance on all fronts.

This was stated by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh.

"I think it is difficult to say that the war is over. Until the war ends on all fronts, peace cannot be guaranteed. And therefore, I believe Iran cannot risk its national security. Iran will continue to remain on high alert and maintain a defensive position on various fronts," the diplomat said at the platform of the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS), a think tank under Iran's Foreign Ministry. He noted that the goal of the Islamic Republic is to "defeat the aggressor," preventing the US from "achieving any of its goals inside Iran."

According to him, it is currently necessary to "focus on ending this war <...> and eliminating its root causes." "And we will work on this, as we proposed [during negotiations] in Islamabad and afterward," Saeed Khatibzadeh said.

He emphasized that, following the start of a new round of escalation due to strikes by the US and Israel, Iran decided to "once and for all" put an end to decades of American pressure.

"After the 12-day war (in June 2025 – ed.) <...> I argued that if something like this happens again, Iran will not act with restraint, caution, or predictability, because a war for survival will be a different kind of war <...>, and this has happened. <...> Iran decided to once and for all put an end to this aggression, which the Americans started many decades ago, not forgiving Iranians for the Islamic Revolution of 1979, as a result of which they were expelled from Iran," the diplomat said.
