In the US, a new strike on Iran is considered possible in the near future
US Senator from the Democratic Party Richard Blumenthal, in an interview with CNN, stated that American military forces may strike Iran in the near future.
“From some of the briefings I have attended, as well as from other sources, I have the impression that a military strike may be carried out in the near future,” Blumenthal said.
According to his assessment, this is “very alarming, as it could endanger the lives of American sons and daughters and lead to significant human losses.”
“I cannot be more specific, as at least one of these briefings, or rather several of them, I received in a closed session. I am not speaking with certainty about when this might happen, but it is a very likely option as a potential plan,” he said.
On April 29, the publication Axios reported that the US Central Command has developed a plan for “short and powerful” strikes on Iranian territory. In the event of renewed attacks, the targets will be infrastructure facilities. As journalists found out, the American side plans to use this approach to pressure the leadership of the Islamic Republic to force it to return to the negotiation process and show flexibility. At the same time, Trump is currently considering a naval blockade as the main lever of pressure, but does not rule out the use of military force if necessary, the material claimed.
